University Ave NE: 2027 construction

(press release from MnDOT)

2027-2028 construction timeline

MnDOT is continuing to advance plans for improvements along University Ave. Northeast (Hwy 47) between Central Ave. Southeast to 27th Ave. Northeast in Northeast Minneapolis.

Based on extensive community input, MnDOT developed a design that will improve safety along the corridor for everyone. The design includes narrowing University Ave. Northeast from four to three lanes, making bike lane improvements, adding medians and enhancing safety at intersections.

Construction is scheduled for 2027 and 2028. Work will occur south of Broadway St. Northeast in 2027. Construction will then move to the Broadway St. Northeast intersection and north of the intersection in 2028. During construction, traffic will be directed to Central Ave. and Broadway St. Additional construction details and detour information will be shared as the project approaches.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule dependent and subject to change.

MnDOT right of way

MnDOT owns and manages land along the roadway known as “right of way.” This includes boulevards, sidewalks and land adjacent to sidewalks. It typically extends about six to eight feet from the roadway throughout the corridor.

If you have a fence, retaining wall or another feature within MnDOT right of way, you will receive a separate letter with additional information about encroachment and next steps.
