Father Hennepin Bluffs Park Stewardship
Help restore native habitats and protect the clean waters of this scenic nature sanctuary by the Mississippi River, once part of the St. Anthony Falls.
As a volunteer, you will assist in creating spaces for native plants to thrive, removing invasive species, and cleaning up the shoreline and park slopes near limestone rocks, where waters once cascaded like they do at Minnehaha Falls. You’ll have the opportunity to rotate between various stewardship activities throughout the season.

Parking: Metered street parking is available on Main Street SE and surrounding streets, with additional parking ramps at 201 Second Street SE and Riverplace.
Closest Transit: Bus #6
Meeting Location: Meet at the corner of 3rd Ave SE and Main St SE, across from the Pillsbury A-Mill. From there, walk down the stairs across from the mill, and you’ll find the sign-in area in the clearing below Main Street SE, near the Third Ave SE road leading to the University of Minnesota lab. Upon arrival, you’ll sign in, learn about the area and activities, meet other volunteers, and receive tools and supplies for the event.
What to Bring: Please bring a water bottle and wear clothing appropriate for the weather (including rain gear, if necessary). Closed-toe shoes are required for outdoor activities on natural, uneven surfaces. Long pants are recommended to protect your legs from brush, and a hat or hair restraint is suggested for those with long hair. Don't forget bug spray and sunscreen.

We meet at 3 locations within Van Cleve Park:

Community Night @ First Church
Community Night at First Church! All are welcome to join us outside in front of the church on Wednesday, Sept 10 from 5:30-7:30p—especially students who are moving into the neighborhood! We'll have a potato bar with all the fixings, lemonade, sweet treats, and potted plants to take home. This event is free and open to the public. First Church is located at 500 8th Ave. SE in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood.

Notice of a Public Hearing: Heritage Preservation Amendment
NOTICE OF A PUBLIC HEARING
Heritage Preservation text amendment:
Amending Title 23, Chapter 599 of the Minneapolis Code of Ordinances relating to Heritage Preservation: Heritage Preservation Regulations.
The purpose of the amendment is to update and modernize heritage preservation regulations including application types, fees, review processes, and standards for nominating and designating landmarks and historic districts.
The City Planning Commission will meet on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, 4:30 p.m., in Room 350 Public Service Center (PSC), 250 S 4th St, Minneapolis, MN. Interested parties are invited to attend and be heard. Planning Department staff will issue a recommendation to the Planning Commission. After hearing from the public, the Planning Commission will make a determination based on required legal findings of fact. Please visit https://lims.minneapolismn.gov/IndependentBodies/Meetings/hpc for the agenda with staff reports (web page is typically updated a few days prior to the meeting date).

Public hearing #2 on renaming Marcy Park
Public hearing #2 on renaming Marcy Park to Dinky Park scheduled September 25th
A public hearing on the renaming of Marcy Park to Dinky Park will be held on Thursday, Sep. 25 at 5:45 pm at Mary Merrill Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Headquarters.
Marcy Park is located at 711 11th Ave. SE, near the University of Minnesota campus and Dinkytown area. The park was named for Marcy School which once occupied the land. The Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Association placed Dinky Park into nomination after engaging with community members on possible names.
Participate in the Public Hearing
Speak in person: Go to Mary Merrill MPRB Headquarters on the day of the hearing and add your name to the sign-up sheet at the front desk. You can also call 612-230-6400 before 3 pm on the day of the hearing to sign up to speak.
Email written comments: Email your comments to opentime@minneapolisparks.org by 3 pm on the day of the hearing. Comments will be included in the public record of the meeting.

Owámniyomni Interpretive Tour
Owámniyomni (St. Anthony Falls) has been a place of profound spiritual and cultural significance for Dakota and other Indigenous people for countless generations, yet most people raised in Minnesota know nothing of this long history.
Join Barry Hand, Owámniyomni Okhódayapi program director, for a 60-minute guided site visit of the Falls and the Upper Lock. Birds eat the seeds. We wait to trim most stalks till the temperature is 50 degrees. Most planting is done at the end of May or early June. Public hearing on renaming Marcy Park
Public hearing on renaming Marcy Park to Dinky Park scheduled August 20
A public hearing on the renaming of Marcy Park to Dinky Park will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 5:45 pm at Mary Merrill Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Headquarters.
Marcy Park is located at 711 11th Ave. SE, near the University of Minnesota campus and Dinkytown area. The park was named for Marcy School which once occupied the land. The Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Association placed Dinky Park into nomination after engaging with community members on possible names.
Participate in the Public Hearing
Speak in person: Go to Mary Merrill MPRB Headquarters on the day of the hearing and add your name to the sign-up sheet at the front desk. You can also call 612-230-6400 before 3 pm on the day of the hearing to sign up to speak.
Email written comments: Email your comments to opentime@minneapolisparks.org by 3 pm on the day of the hearing. Comments will be included in the public record of the meeting.

Help restore native habitats and protect the clean waters of this scenic nature sanctuary by the Mississippi River, once part of the St. Anthony Falls.
As a volunteer, you will assist in creating spaces for native plants to thrive, removing invasive species, and cleaning up the shoreline and park slopes near limestone rocks, where waters once cascaded like they do at Minnehaha Falls. You’ll have the opportunity to rotate between various stewardship activities throughout the season.

About this event
