Open House on March 26 kicks off Water Works Phase 2 design process
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is hosting an open house on March 26 to kick off the design process for a second phase of improvements at Water Works, the downtown riverfront park that opened in 2021 next to the Stone Arch Bridge.
The Open House is 5-7 pm at Water Works Pavillion, 425 West River Road. Everyone is welcome to attend to learn more and share input.
The MPRB has engaged GGN to lead the design process. Based in Seattle, this internationally recognized design firm is also working with Owámniyomni Okhódayapi on a design to restore its lands surrounding the Upper St. Anthony lock, adjacent to Water Works.
Besides recognizing that concurrent work, the concept design process includes engagement with neighbors, interested parties and representatives of Dakota communities.

Background
The MPRB has been working for more than four years with the City of Minneapolis, Owámniyomni Okhódayapi, and the United States Army Corps of Engineers on the conveyance of lands surrounding the Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock. These lands that hold significant spiritual meaning for Indigenous peoples.
In 2026, Owámniyomni Okhódayapi is beginning its restoration of those disturbed lands, creating a landscape supporting Dakota-based programming and cultural activities.
Parkland, including Water Works, surrounds the Owámniyomni Okhódayapi lands within Central Mississippi Riverfront Regional Park.
