Community Gardens on East Bank

For being in the middle of a very urbanized city, East Bank neighborhoods have a lot of green space. While grass is nice for some parts of our neighborhoods, some neighbors have taken it upon themselves to create beautiful pockets of nature throughout the area. As an organization, we provide assistance with programming and funding for these spaces.

Our gardens are unique in that most, if not all are spaces where community can get involved. Some projects are adopted by neighbors who tend to spaces adjacent to their properties and others are run by program leads. No prior experience is required to volunteer and we love when people who are just starting to get into gardening come out to get their hands dirty. Tools & gloves are provided at each project site, so all you need to do is show up. Be it once or time after time, we are excited to welcome you into our gardens!

The Southeast Como community gardens offer a variety of gardening opportunities, with spaces of different shapes, sizes, and purposes. Whether you want to grow food, cultivate flowers, or simply enjoy nature, there's a garden for you. For details on each garden, visit their webpages linked below.

To get involved, contact the East Bank Neighborhoods Partnership for more info or just show up to a workday!

Check EBNP’s calendar for scheduled sessions, and stay updated via email.

Gardens in the Como Neighborhood

Southeast Como Community Gardens

Since 2007, volunteers from the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood have taken on the responsibility of maintaining one of 12 corner “bump-out” flower gardens along historic 5th Street SE each season. While EBNP provides gardening expertise, plants, and mulch, local property owners help by watering the gardens. These small but impactful green spaces contribute to the beauty and vibrancy of the neighborhood.

The Stone Arch Bike Boulevard, connecting the Mississippi River with Northeast Minneapolis, follows the Sixth Avenue Greenway through Marcy-Holmes.  We are lucky to have two circles planted with native grasses and flowers, at 7th Street and 6th Street SE. We have inviting people to put in new plants and join a care team to water and tend these lovely green spots to help them thrive.

In 2024, each of these two traffic circles were revamped with a new planting plan and plants.
