Improvements for East River Flats Park slated for 2026

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is making improvements at East River Flats Park in 2026. The improvements look to create new access to the Mississippi River for accessible kayaking, canoeing, and fishing, a new picnic pavilion, a sand volleyball hub, as well as invasive species removal and planting restoration along the park’s riverfront. Improvements follow the guidance of the 2019 Mississippi Gorge Regional Park Plan.

Funding for the project is provided by the University Neighborhood portion of the Dibble-Hornstein Parkland Dedication Fund, a regional park grant, and a small MWMO planning grant.
