Repaving on East Hennepin Ave + Stinson Blvd in NE MPLS
Be alert for lane closures and flaggers
Beginning Monday, September 15, Hennepin County will repave East Hennepin Avenue from Johnson Street to Industrial Boulevard, as well as a short section of Stinson Boulevard from East Hennepin Avenue to Kennedy Street. The work is expected to take about a week.
Here's what you can expect during paving:
East Hennepin Avenue, as well as Stinson Boulevard, will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.
Paving crews will be onsite and flaggers will be directing traffic at intersections at times. Be alert and drive slowly. Allow extra travel time or consider an alternative route.
Cross streets and business access will remain open, but there may be short delays as paving crews proceed through the project area.
We'll install temporary lane striping after paving is complete. In October, crews will return to install the final lane markings. That work will require about two days of short-term, single lane closures.
All dates are weather dependent.
About this project
Hennepin County is improving East Hennepin Avenue in northeast Minneapolis, between Johnson Street and Industrial Boulevard. When the work is complete in the weeks ahead you'll notice smoother streets with fresh pavement along with changes that make it safer and easier to travel through this area.
Instead of two lanes in each direction, East Hennepin Avenue will have one lane in each direction, and one center lane for turning. This will calm traffic and discourage speeding.
Dedicated bike lanes with painted buffers will provide space between bikes and cars, improving safety and comfort.
Updated crossings with ramps will increase accessibility.
New traffic signals will include audible pedestrian systems and push button-activated crossings.
